A NEW PARTNERSHIP
Award-winning garden designer Tom Hoblyn has announced the launch of Hoblyn & White marking the evolution of his highly successful garden design practice in Suffolk, into a new partnership with landscape architect Jane Fitzgerald White, who joined his practice in 2023.
The Hoblyn & White partnership reflects a long-standing collaboration and shared approach to garden design that places horticulture, sustainability and sensitivity to place, at its core.
Tom said, “This feels like a natural evolution rather than a dramatic reinvention. Jane and I have worked closely for three years now, and it’s become clear that we share the same vision for what garden design should be: ambitious yet grounded, deeply horticultural, and genuinely sustainable.”
A Shared Design Philosophy
Central to Hoblyn & White’s work is a belief that gardens should be led by plants and informed by how landscapes evolve — ecologically, climatically, and over time. Both designers are known for creating gardens that mature gracefully, with planting schemes rooted in genuine horticultural understanding, rather than short-term effect.
Tom established Thomas Hoblyn Garden Design shortly after graduating from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. His work is underpinned by his innate understanding and knowledge as a plantsman and master horticulturalist. He is a Fellow of the Society of Garden Designers (MSGD) and an established figure at RHS Shows, having received three golds, five silver gilts and two silver medals.
Jane brings more than 30 years’ experience to the partnership having worked within private gardens, historic landscapes and sensitive sites, including coastal and heritage environments in Dublin, where precision and restraint are essential.
She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture from the University of Gloucestershire, is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute, and has built a parallel consultancy practice assessing development impact on sensitive landscapes across East Anglia and the Cotswolds.
The benefits of good partnership
The Hoblyn & White partnership will allow Tom more time to focus on early-stage design, client relationships, planting design, and horticulture. All areas for which he is widely recognised and which remain central to the studio’s identity.
Jane is a skilled conceptual designer who embeds a more profound yet subtle meaning into the practice’s designs. As partner, Jane will also oversee project delivery, guiding projects from initial concept through to completion and will ensure a faithful execution of the design on site. She will also play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the studio
Jane has lectured in Sustainable Design and continues to mentors emerging designers, reflecting a commitment to education and the future of the profession.
Commenting Jane said, “What excites us about this partnership is that it positions us to take on more ambitious projects whilst maintaining the quality and thoughtfulness that people have always appreciated in our work. My experience with sensitive landscapes and biodiversity enhancement meshes perfectly with Tom’s focus on climate-resilient planting and ecological richness.
“Our emphasis on personally growing plants, exploring new ideas, and maintaining a service-led approach for clients, will remain unchanged.”
Concluding, Tom said, “We have several incredible and innovative projects in development for 2026/27, and the partnership will allow Hoblyn & White to take on more ambitious and complex garden projects while retaining the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that have defined the practice to date.
This new partnership isn’t about becoming something we’re not; it’s about becoming a better version of what we already are.”
